The Story

Duncan Cheslett left college in 1980 after studying to be a woodwork teacher.

Caught up in Maggie’s revolution and preferring commerce to the world of education he set up a small manufacturing business with his brother Ian and with the help of his parents. From 1990 until 2000 the business operated as purely a retail operation selling cane conservatory furniture (which we still do!) and pine furniture from various UK manufacturers.

In 2000, inspired by Norm on ‘The New Yankee Workshop’, Duncan decided to return to his cabinet-making roots and set up a small workshop within the existing premises in Stockport in order to make ‘specials’ - made to measure pieces not available from regular suppliers. Such was the immediate success of this sideline that within a year over half of the 10,000 sq ft premises had been converted to workshop space, nearly £100,000 invested in machinery and equipment, and extra staff recruited. In 2003 the manufacturing division was split off from the rest of the operation (Stockport Cane and Pine Centre) and Cheshire Pine Design Ltd was born.

Each of our cabinet -makers shares Duncan’s passion for woodworking and making top quality solid wood furniture.
Other timbers such as oak, ash, and maple will be offered over the coming year as hopefully we develop into one of the area’s leading bespoke cabinet making companies.

Our aim is to provide a service and quality second to none and to bring hand made bespoke furniture within the budget of everyone. Our furniture can be found in top footballers’ mansions in Wilmslow, humble council houses in Wythenshawe, and in lots of homes just like yours!!
